V-Ray Stormy Ocean Shader
Description
This is a V-Ray Ocean shader for 3ds Max that responds to objects or coast in the scene, placing foam where it would naturally occur. Replacing the spheres with coasts, rocks or ships for example, this scene could be utilized to create a believable stormy ocean scene.
It is only necessary to add the objects in the sea to VrayDistanceTex node, and the foam will propagate correctly around the objects or coasts, as seen in the sample renders.
The ocean mesh itself is a static object but can be easily replaced with Houdini Ocean (hot4max) plugin for example, which is a free plugin, in order to create animated ocean. In fact that was what I used to create the sample ocean mesh.
Included also is a HDRI sky that is ready to render. All texture paths are relative.
This shader was tested with V-Ray Next 3.1 CPU renderer. This has NOT been tested with the GPU renderer and I cannot support it.
Included are also the mesh objects in .obj and .fbx formats, but as neither of the formats support shaders, using this data in other apps will require some work.
Software Requirements
Please note that V-Ray Next 3.1 and 3ds Max 2020 are required in order for this to work.
